Can I use turkey or chicken instead of beef?
Yes you can! You can also use ground pork, ground bison, ground elk or anything you like.
Can I cut the recipe in half?
Yes you can. Make 1 cup of rice and 1 lb of beef. Same cooking time.
Which rice should I use?
This Instant Pot ground beef and rice recipe works with jasmine rice or basmati rice.
How long should I cook the beef?
It's better to cook the ground beef until almost no pink color remains and the beef becomes completely brownish.
What to serve it with?
It's great as a one-pot meal.
If you wanna add something, serve it with a fresh Salad and Cornbread.
Can I store the leftovers?
You can surely freeze this dish but I would recommend freezing it without the sour cream and cheese.
How to reheat Ground Beef and Rice?
Add sour cream when you reheat.
I would also recommend adding a bit more liquid or sauce in order to rehydrate the rice as they become dry.
How to make Instant Pot Ground Beef and Rice
Gather the ingredients.
Pour some oil in the pot and add ground beef while the Instant Pot is set to Saute for 5 minutes.
Stir the beef until it becomes brownish then add previously chopped onions.
Add the required spices.
Now add a can of tomato sauce and some rice.
There goes in some water as well.
Some chicken broth to add up the taste.
Mix it well and set the Pot to High Pressure for 4 minutes.
Do a Quick Release afterward.
Now add some frozen green peas & sour cream. Stir for 1-2 minutes.
Now we'll add a little bit of previously grated cheddar cheese.
Mix and let it warm for a minute or two.
Dish out & enjoy 🙂

Burnt b4 getting up to pressure, I cleaned it out, scraped the bottom and tried again, adding 2 cups additional liquid, burnt again. Salvaged what I could. Hubby ate it, but I couldn't eat more than a taste or two. Also, amounts called for seem to be way too much for the number of servings, ie 2 cups of rice and 2 lbs of hamburger for just 4 servings, it made a ton.
Great recipe for dinner! Can't wait to try more of your recipes Corrie
I would like to see the cooking directions for non-instant pot, as I do not own one and can't afford one.
I made this last night and got a burn message as the instant pot never rose to proper pressure. I used a mid sized can of tomato sauce as the recipe did not indicate the size recommended. Was the can of tomato sauce supposed to be a large can? We did eat the dish but was careful to not scrape the bottom of the pot, it was still a good meal.
So how much tomato sauce?
I'm not the author of the recipe, but just looking at the rice-to-liquid ratio, I would think a 15-ounce can would be sufficient. He did not include enough liquid for the amount of rice, though, so I'm going to fill the empty larger tomato sauce can with water and pour that in just to make sure the rice has sufficient water to cook it properly.
Tomato sauce comes in different size cans. What SIZE can are you using?
I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but the recipe says "two cup rice" in addition to the liquid and tomato sauce, etc. My instant pot started burning it because there wasn't enough liquid in there, is it possible that 2 cups of rice is a typo or something?
Sorry about that! Since different types of rice require different amounts of liquid, make sure there's enough liquid for the rice. This recipe should work with a 1:1 ratio, but next time try to double the amount of broth or add more water and it should work for you.
I made this last night. I only had 1 pound of hamburger meat, but it was still plenty of beef. My elderly mother does not like peas, so I cooked the separately and allowed everyone to add their own. It was so easy to make and used ingredients I always have on hand. My family really enjoyed it and I’ll definitely make it again. 5 stars from us!
Thanks for the stellar review, I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it! And great thinking on your part to cook the peas separately.
