Let's get cooking!

1. Feta Pasta

In Italy, fish is often served alongside a pasta dish, so grab your favorite bottle of vino and give this fresh and flavorful side a try the next time you are making halibut.

This recipe is a simple take on the viral feta pasta recipe that has become TikTok famous. Using inexpensive ingredients, this easy-to-make dish is just as tasty when reheated as leftovers, so make sure you prepare extra!

2. Mushroom Risotto

This easy side dish is a great dinner itself, but together with halibut you get a complete and colorful meal.

Halibut is the perfect fish to serve with mushroom risotto since it's light and buttery.

Feel free to take out spinach or the peas if you don't like them.

3. Roasted Vegetables

These roasted vegetables are an excellent way to pack your meal with a tonne of flavor and nutrition. Plus, look how gorgeous all of the colors look in this simple side dish.

The best part is that you can really use any veggies that you have got sitting in your fridge. If you are anything like me, there are always some vegetables stashed in a drawer that you have forgotten about.

4. Baby Potatoes

These potatoes are super simple to make and are so versatile that you can change them up to suit your tastes. While the recipe only calls for salt and pepper, you can add in any of your favorite herbs and spices, like rosemary, garlic, or paprika, for some added zing!

5. Potato Corn Chowder

A smoky, hearty side dish like this potato corn chowder is the perfect compliment to a nicely cooked piece of halibut, especially on a cold winter night.

A nice plus is how easy this halibut side dish is to customize. You can leave the bacon out for a vegetarian chowder and add in some extra veggies like carrots and celery for added flavor. You could even add the halibut and some scallops, muscles, or clams for a seafood chowder.

Pro tip: double the recipe and freeze half to save for another night!

6. Autumn Harvest Salad

This salad serves as the perfect bed to top with this citrus-marinated halibut.  Featuring a host of yummy autumn flavors like cinnamon, pomegranate, and honey, this salad can be made with other items you might have in your kitchen, such as blueberries, lemon, or apples. Top with Grana Padano, Parmigiano, or smoked gouda shavings for a hint of savory with this sweet salad.

7. Collard Greens

Teeming with anti-oxidants, these leafy greens are an excellent halibut side dish for those looking to incorporate more nutritious meals into their dinner repertoire. Collard greens combined with a heart-healthy fish loaded with omega-three fatty acids like halibut is a super nutritional boost for anyone looking to improve their heart health, regulate diabetes, and protect against a host of other illnesses.

8. Sauteed Mushrooms and Spinach with Spicy Garlic Sauce

This side dish features shitake mushrooms, garlic, and sesame, making it the perfect complement to an Asian-inspired halibut recipe. And the addition of the red pepper flakes packs enough of a punch to wake up your tastebuds.

9. Cilantro Lime Rice

This cilantro lime rice is a great way to add some flavor to your usual fish and rice meal. Add some black beans to the rice for extra protein and serve as a side dish for halibut fish tacos for a Mexican-inspired meal.

10. Lemon Couscous

This lemony couscous is a tasty halibut side dish that you can take a lot of liberties with. Adding some fresh parsley, grilled zucchini, or chopped tomatoes can kick up the flavor and nutritional value of this meal. The star of this dish is the lemon, though, so don't shy away from that lemon zest!

11. Black Beans and Rice

Not your typical rice and beans recipe, this side dish packs a surprisingly flavorful punch. Be careful when seasoning, as the siracha, chili powder, cumin, and cajun seasonings can intensify in heat over time.

The best part of this side dish is that one batch makes a lot, so this could be a good staple for your weekly meal prep.

It is important to note that this particular recipe uses dried black beans and not canned ones. However, even though you are using dry beans, you don't need to soak them in advance, cutting your prep time in half!

12. Buttery Sauteed Green Beans

These simple and tasty green beans are a lighter option to serve as a halibut side dish.

To keep that bright green color and a nice crunchy texture during cooking, blanche your beans first. However, if you're pressed for time, you can absolutely just toss the beans directly into the saute pan. You can also use frozen beans to save time, and they don't have to be blanched first.

13. White Beans

For a quick way to get this protein-packed side dish onto your dinner table, you'll need to bust out your instant pot, so you won't need to waste time soaking your beans in advance. Additionally, you can make a significant portion to use as side dishes or as part of your meal prep for the week.

You can use a variety of different dry beans to make this recipe, including Navy beans, Great Northern beans, or Cannellini beans.
