I followed the instructions to the T- except I added an extra half cup of broth . It turned out tasty but gelatinous - and a bit too sweet. Ease up on the brown sugar.
I made this. It was good, but the beans were, if compared to pasta, al dente.
Next time, I'll add an extra 1/2 cup of broth, and pressure cook on high for 45 minutes instead of 35.
Does the salt and tomato paste prevent the beans from cooking sufficiently tender?
No, the beans still come out nice and tender after cooking this way.
Hi, we have garlic allergies at home. How much chive should I use instead. Thanks in advance.
I would use approx 1-2 tablespoons of chopped chives per clove of garlic, so, 5-10 chives for this recipe. I would also recommend mixing them in at the end of the recipe rather than adding at the beginning.
Hi Corrie, this looks delicious! Do you need to soak the beans in water in order for them to cook well? If so - for how long?
Thanks
No, at 35 minutes, you shouldn't need to soak the beans first.
thank you Corrie. I just got as a gift an XL pressure cooker. Will this recipe work in the XL pressure Cooker?
Yes, absolutely! It will work in whatever model pressure cooker.
I know that this dish usually includes eggs, and there are eggs pictured, but I don't see eggs listed in the recipe. Do you just nestle them in the top of the stew like you would in a regular slow cooker?
Good question. Waiting for his answer as well ๐
Yes, exactly! The eggs are optional but traditionally included.
Why cook for 120 minutes when most stews can cook in 25 or 30? Also, can I add chicken breasts, and if so, won't 120 minutes make them turn to mush? Can I use frozen chicken? Thanks!
Saute the beef in the Instant Pot first, save all the delicious brown bits and don't have to wash another pan?
Yes you can saute the beef in the Instant Pot ๐
