Why This Recipe Works

Turkey is lean meat, so it has less saturated fats than a hamburger. You can even swap out the bun and load it with healthy vegetables to provide you with a protein-rich, nutrient-dense meal that tastes great and is ready in 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Ground Turkey: This recipe works just as well with ground chicken.

Bread Crumbs: Bread crumbs act as an adhesive in any burger, but you need to be careful. Add too many, and your burger will be very bland. Don't add enough, and your burger might fall apart during the cooking process.

Paprika: This recipe only calls for ¼ teaspoon of paprika. Feel free to add more if you like a little spice.

Garlic Powder: If you are using fresh garlic instead, one clove should do.

Onion Powder: Shredded onion would be a delicious replacement in the event you don't have onion powder.

Bun: I love a kaiser or brioche bun with my burgers but feel free to use whatever buns you like most.

Toppings: Get creative with what you have in the fridge. I love avocado, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, and mayo on my air fryer turkey burgers. You can also add red onion, ketchup, mayo, bbq sauce, sprouts, or anything else you might enjoy!

Non-Stick Cooking Spray: Ground turkey is quite sticky to begin with, so it's important to spray your basket thoroughly before cooking.

How to Make Air Fryer Turkey Burgers

Step One: In a large bowl, mix together bread crumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, onion, and garlic powder. Add the turkey and mix until combined.

Step Two: Shape into patties a little larger than the size of your palm, then refrigerate for 5 minutes.

Step Three: Spray your basket with non-stick cooking spray and place your patties inside. Cook for 10 minutes at 300F.

Step Four: Remove the cooked patty and build your burger featuring your favorite toppings.

Serve and enjoy!

Tips

  • Ground turkey is very sticky, so it is essential to spray your air fryer basket with a non-stick cooking spray before you attempt to cook your turkey burgers.
  • Choose from various toppings for your turkey burger, such as lettuce, tomato, red onion, sprouts, avocado, mayo, mustard, ketchup, cheese, ranch dressing, bbq sauce, etc.
  • If you have more turkey than you need, you can freeze the uncooked patties and cook them later. Simply cook frozen patties in your air fryer for 18 minutes at 360F, flipping halfway in between.
  • You'll have a nutrient-dense meal packed with protein by making minor adjustments to how you serve the burgers. Swap out the kaiser for a potato or gluten-free bun, or go bun-less altogether. Top it with baby spinach or kale instead of lettuce.

What to Serve With Air Fryer Turkey Burgers

Just like any other burger, my air fryer turkey burgers can be served with a variety of different side dishes. Some of my favorites are avocado fries or sweet potato fries.

On a colder night, you might enjoy a bowl of butternut squash soup, tomato soup, or chili con carne with your turkey burger.

Recipe FAQs

How long can air fryer turkey burger leftovers be stored?

You can refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. You can reheat them in the microwave, oven, or air fryer.

Can I use any other seasonings?

Absolutely you can! Use whatever flavors you are drawn to. Add cumin and red chili flakes for some spice, or swap out the paprika for rosemary and lemon pepper seasoning.

Can I bread my turkey patties?

Yes, you can. Give your patties an egg wash before cooking, then coat them in breadcrumbs. You can use the ones that you included in the turkey mixture, or you can use panko crumbs. You will need to spray them with cooking oil before cooking to ensure the breading doesn't stick to the basket.
