American breakfast

Nothing says good morning in America like its iconic breakfast foods. From sweet pancakes dripping with syrup to savory bacon and eggs, breakfast in the U.S. is a delicious mix of comfort and tradition. These top dishes are a staple in American households, setting the tone for the day.

Another beverage staple at the breakfast table is a cold glass of fresh orange juice. Full of vitamin C, this delicious juice is the perfect refreshing drink to start your day. Also, a delightful mimosa could be an alternative if you feel like celebrating in the morning. The only other question here is, pulp or no pulp?

2. Coffee

I will never get tired of waking up to that aroma of fresh coffee brewing. If you're like me, a hot cup of coffee is the first thing I reach for at the breakfast table. That first warming sip gets me energized and ready to start my day. I put this number one on the list because I can easily sacrifice a small breakfast as long as I have my cup of joe.

3. Eggs

The most versatile food you'll find at the breakfast table is eggs. Whether you want them scrambled, fried, hard-boiled, or over-easy, eggs are full of the protein needed for a healthy meal. With unlimited omelet additions like meats and veggies, eggs can arguably be the king of breakfast. I like mine scrambled mixed with some cheddar cheese and bell peppers.

4. Bacon

The smell of bacon frying in the morning always brings me back to my childhood and Grandma's house. We were always spoiled with a giant breakfast, but to me, the morning's highlight was always bacon. A breakfast isn't complete without a few slices of bacon. A perfect salty treat can be enjoyed alone or in a fluffy omelet. Get the recipe

5. Sausages

The cousin of the bacon strip is the breakfast sausage. I prefer my sausage in links and matched with pancakes, which we will get to later. Have you ever tried these savory links paired with sweet maple syrup? Trust me, you will thank me later. Get the recipe

6. Pancakes

I've been trying to perfect the art of flipping pancakes in a pan like Grandma used to do for most of my adult life, but I still can't do it the way she did. Is there anything better than a stack of soft, fluffy pancakes topped with warm butter and maple syrup? Try them with chocolate chips, peanut butter, strawberries, or other sweet additions, but I'm a purist and like them the old-fashioned way. Get the recipe

7. Biscuits and Gravy

It wasn't until I moved to the South that I realized the greatness of biscuits and gravy. Thick buttery biscuits topped with rich country gravy, I felt like I had been left out on an inside joke for thirty years. After a hearty meal, I always go back for a little more sleep when finished, a perfect way to start the weekend. Get the recipe

8. Bagels

If you are a busy person on the go, a bagel can be the perfect handheld meal. With endless flavor options, a bagel can be enjoyed with a little bit of cream cheese or stacked with eggs, cheese, and meats for a filling breakfast sandwich. Ask any New Yorker how they feel about bagels, and they will tell you they are an essential part of a traditional American breakfast. Personally, I like the jalapeno cheddar bagels myself. What's your favorite?

9. Waffles

There has been a long-term debate in my household over what is better, the pancake or the waffle. While I hold steady with the pancake, I still love a soft and fluffy waffle. How can one deny the little puddles of creamy butter and warm syrup that a waffle creates? Adding powdered sugar and fresh strawberries can enhance this breakfast treat as well.

10. Donuts

I am ending this list with a simple treat many people pair with their coffee. Does anyone remember being a kid and wishing you could have cake for breakfast? That is essentially what a donut is, but if you dunk it in coffee, you have a perfectly acceptable breakfast. My favorite is a glazed, old-fashioned, and I might get one now.
