Fashion has evolved over the centuries, but we're still seeing timeless pieces with modern makeovers in 2024. While trends come and go, some leave a lasting impression and resurface repeatedly. Whether you're a 90s baby or a die-hard 70s fan, there are accessories and clothes you're currently wearing that date back to when you were young.

1. Plaids

If you open your closet, you'll find some plaid shirts, even if you don't wear them daily. Plaid enjoyed popularity in the 1940s and 1950s, resurfaced with the preppy trend in the 1980s, and found another home in the 1990s grunge movement. It's becoming popular again. Whether you're wearing a plain white shirt with the flannel on top or you're wearing it as a skirt with some chunky boots, plaids are here to stay.

2. Overalls

These bad boys are the epitome of fashion because they've been a statement piece for a range of people for years. First worn mostly by farmers and other rural folks, they became popular among the geek crowd in the late 20th century. While the trend died down, it's starting to emerge again with different iterations of the garment. Not only do they look cute, but they're also comfortable. Beauty doesn't have to be pain.

3. Faux Fur Coats

Whether you're a hater or a fan, soft faux fur coats are becoming popular, with runways featuring them in their winter collections. These are becoming essential items in everyone's wardrobe because they keep you layered without wearing tons of clothing. Not only do they look good, but you don't need to look like a stuffed burrito if you own one.

4. Bucket Hats

You know something is making a comeback when celebrities like Billie Eilish start wearing it. Bucket hats are a 90s trend that has been reintroduced into the modern world. You can pair them with crop tops and shorts to complete your outfit. The best part about them is that you can easily fold and store them anywhere.

5. Oversized Everything

The list just wouldn't be complete without mentioning oversized clothing. Gen Z has wholly left the skinny jeans days behind, and you'll rarely see anyone in fitted outfits these days. Oversized pieces aren't just shirts or hoodies; even denim jeans and cargos have become five times larger, also reminiscent of 1990s grunge fashion. Buying the perfect size has never been easier.

6. Corsets

Worn by women in the 18th and 19th centuries, many people have embraced corsets as royal fashion has become trendy. They were seen as restrictive when introduced, but now, wearing one makes many women feel powerful. Even Netflix shows like Bridgerton have added fuel to the burning trend.

7. Chunky Sneakers

Also called the Dad Sneakers, these were popular in the early 2000s but have made a raging comeback. Not only do they match every outfit imaginable, but they're also comfortable, breathable, and give you an extra height boost.

8. Mini Backpacks

Who needs enormous bags that ruin your aesthetic when you can have their miniature version? Mini versions of backpacks help you carry your stuff around easily without looking clunky. The best part is that they come in various materials and styles, so you have endless options to choose from.

9. Sheer Clothing

After the French Revolution, sheer garments, later called "X-ray clothes" were notoriously scandalous. The mayor of Portland wanted everyone wearing them to be arrested! Nowadays, sheer has been reimagined with artists and celebrities reclaiming what was once forbidden. Sheer skirts and blouses make people look divine, and nothing will convince me otherwise.

10. Thick Sunglasses

2024 is all about eccentric looks, with thick and chunky sunglasses being one of the hottest topics. The weird gas station glasses that no one would buy are becoming iconic, with so many variations and colors to choose from. Nothing is too big when it comes to a good pair of shades.
