10 Recipes That Taste Better as Leftovers

Some foods have a magical way of tasting even better the next day. Whether it’s the flavors melding together or the ingredients having time to settle, these dishes are at their peak after a night in the fridge. Here are 10 foods that are more delicious the next day.

1. Lasagna

Garfield the Cat's favorite food is always better the day after, as far as this fan is concerned. "It's great right out of the oven," writes the chef, "but it's even better after it has a chance to set up in the fridge overnight." My only concern with next-day lasagna is that the bechamel may seep into the meat sauce.

2. Enchiladas

"Enchiladas," comments the following foodie. "Good out of the oven, but much better the next day." I adore enchiladas, which is hard work if you live in Britain! However, one responder asks, "How are there enchilada leftovers?" Fair point: they aren't surviving until day two if I am anywhere near enchiladas.

3. Chili

"You can put chili on almost anything," swears the next thread poster. "Fries — boom — now chili fries," says this excitable chili fan. "Hot dog; now it's a chili dog." This contributor may be on a mission to add chili to everything. Next, it will be chili cookies; maybe a chili cheesecake? I would personally love to see a chili fountain.

4. Soups and Stews

"Soups and stews are always much more flavorful and delicious on day two," confirms a broth believer. Of course, when all the ingredients have a few hours to become familiar, they all get along better. However, be careful not to leave it uncovered or in any warm temperature lest it go off.

5. Thanksgiving Dinner

Are we sure about this? Maybe the gravy tastes better on day two, but dried turkey? I do love one commenter's Ross Geller reference, though. "Ross Geller would agree with you," notes a commenter. "He calls it The Moist Maker." After jogging my memory, Ross's design is a turkey sandwich with one extra slice of gravy-soaked bread in the middle. Bravo, Ross; bravo.

6. Pulled Pork or Chicken

"I usually make a whole bunch of it at once, eat some, and then use the rest over the next few days in a variety of ways," advises a commenter. "Sandwiches, tacos, on pizza, in casseroles, or just straight up." I once at pulled pork for breakfast with fried eggs and toast — pulled pork needs to be recognized as an all-day ingredient. 7. Cold Pizza

It's a yes to cold pizza for me. I love breakfast pizza with hot coffee on the side, though I find a quick blast in the oven will bring a pizza back to life — not a microwave, which hardens the dough. "I've started cutting up leftover pieces of pizza and adding them to scrambled eggs in the morning, and I couldn't be happier with that discovery," shares another cold pizza fan. I am yet to try this invention; I might try it!

8. Curry

Being British, I have a longstanding relationship with takeout curry. However, I cannot complete a full serving in one sitting, so I am forced to reheat half the next day. "Curry is one of those foods that looks horrid after taking it out of the fridge, then tastes amazing after you heat it up," writes a fellow fan.

9. Pasta Salad

"Pasta Salad is something that shows up at my family gatherings, but I won't eat it until the next day when it comes from the fridge," says the next observer. "I hate it warm or room temp, but it's pretty good cold." Yeah, warm pasta salad just sounds weird. "Who is serving warm pasta salad?" asks a kindred thread member.

10. Fries

While many consider old fries good for nothing but garbage, restoring them to their crispy glory is possible. British chip shop fries — fat ones — can go into an oven for 15 minutes; thinner fries can be tossed on medium heat in a pan or rekindled with an air fryer.
