Musicians pour their heart and soul into their performances. It's one of the reasons why we love and worship these artists. They bring their passion to life whenever they bring their music. Sometimes, these lyrics and performances hit harder when the artist is going through a rough point in their lives. A group of music lovers met online to discuss songs where the performer might have been dealing with life-altering changes.

1. "The Show Must Go On" - Queen (1991)

Freddie Mercury was facing his mortality when he recorded one of the last hits his band Queen put out. Record producers and bandmates alike were concerned if he could hit the notes he was famous for. The track is a beautiful memory of the late vocalist. Songwriter Brian May recalls Freddie saying, "I'll (sic) do it, darling." In typical rockstar fashion, he killed it. RIP Freddie.

2. "Hurt" - Johnny Cash (2003)

The iconic, grave voice of country music star Johnny Cash had all but faded away before his resurgence in the early 2000s. The cover of the Nine Inch Nail song brought the "man in black" back to the mainstream, earning several Grammys and accolades. Sadly, Cash passed away in 2003, only months after his wife June passed. Still, his gruff version of this cover will bring the biggest Cash fan to tears.

3. "Lazarus" - David Bowie (2016)

The final album released by the eccentric pop star has been described as the artist's swan song; a last gift before his passing. Lazarus hints at Bowie gaining fame after his death and his acceptance of his fate. "Oh, I'll be free" is a haunting lyric that comforts fans, knowing the singer is content with his fate.

4. "You Know You're Right" - Nirvana (2002) Recorded in 1994

It's a haunting listen for Nirvana fans. The song was the last recording from frontman Kurt Cobain before his untimely death. Released eight years after his death, fans got an insight into the grunge pioneer's troubled mind. A final apology to those he loved, Kurt's art will forever be missed.

5. "Bad Fish" - Sublime (1991)

A horribly dark song, hiding under a catchy melody, Bradley hangs some delicate lyrics on his listeners. In a song about introducing a new addict to heroin, Bradly held his guilt of a drug addict who brought others into his world seriously. In a short five years, Bradley would be gone, and his music would be all we have left of the Southern California singer.

6. "Rehab" - Amy Winehouse (2006)

One of the biggest voices of the last Generation, Amy Winehouse, blended pop music with influences of soul, jazz, and blues. Sadly, she was burdened by a drug and alcohol addiction that would eventually take her life. Her hit, "Rehab," might have been a call for help or her coming to terms with her fate. Sadly, her voice will now be a memory of what could have been.

7. "Don't Fear the Reaper" - Blue Oyster Cult (1976)

Singer-songwriter Buck Dharma wrote this song while contemplating love and life. He equates it to the tragedy of youthful deaths like those in Romeo and Juliet. The song implies we shouldn't fear death but also respect the concept. Luckily, Buck is still alive and well and performing his famous song.

8. "Fell on Black Days" - Soundgarden (1994)

A chilling song, when dissected, this song could be a prelude to what would become of frontman Chris Cornell. Chris would pass away tragically years later, but lyrics like "How could I know that this would be my fate," and "I'm a search light soul they say, but I can't see in the night," scream a man in pain. Unfortunately, we will never know the true meaning behind these lyrics.

9. "A Fond Farwell" - Elliott Smith (2004)

Elliot Smith's final album could be argued to be a plea for help. Whatever Elliott was going through was bled on the paper that wrote "A Fond Farwell." Listening to his chilling vocals as he prepares to leave this world is still eerie. His fans are left with a hollow feeling, knowing his tortured self could have gotten help before taking his own life.

10. "To Live and Die in L.A." - Tupac (1996)

The short-lived life of West Coast rapper Tupac Sahkur was unfortunately troubled by death. Shot on multiple occasions, the rapper was no stranger to facing his mortality. He carried almost a sense of pride around the weight of his world. He succumbed to his fate shortly after this release due to a gunshot wound in a drive-by shooting. He will forever be missed.
