10 Nostalgic Foods That Baby Boomers Love

TV Dinner

It's a trip down memory lane with foods that baby boomers can't seem to let go of, even if younger generations might cringe at the thought. From canned vegetables to gelatin-based salads, these dishes hold nostalgic value, though they might not win any culinary awards today. Let's explore 10 gross foods that boomers still hold dear.

1. Jell-O

While the original Jell-O cups are still delicious, baby boomers need to let go of the ones that are in designs. You know, the big savory ones at the all-you-can-eat buffets filled with odd bits of food and fruit. Those are not good and will never be good, so just say Jell-No.

2. Meatloaf

We all knew this would be number one on the list! It's one of the top foods we dreaded eating at dinner. This mash of meats is not a good combination and should be left in the past where it belongs. There are many other ways to get protein from meat; the last one should be meatloaf.

3. Juice Concentrate

Waiting for those little frozen cylinders to defrost might be as bad as this product. While the price of juice seems to be rising, baby boomers do not bat an eye since they stick to the concentrate that needs to be mixed with water to be drinkable.

4. TV Dinners

These "dinners" (if they can be called that) are generally a main meal and two sides of vegetables. You throw them in the oven or microwave to heat up, but no matter what, the middle will always be cold. While the ingredient list within those food choices is relatively extensive, the taste is no better; leaving this in the past is better for everyone.

5. Buffets

Serving all that food at different temperatures and having it sit out all day isn't suitable for anyone. Not only does it sit out, but bugs fly on it, people touch it, and the risks keep multiplying. It always seems as though it's the lowest quality food available. But hey, it's all you can eat, so that's something.

6. Cornflakes

A super nostalgic food for all baby boomers, this cereal is the first thought for an early morning breakfast. While there is not much nutritional value, they are so unbelievably bland, regardless of how you try to make them taste better.

7. Canned Soup

Canned soup is convenient; throw it in a pot for a few minutes, and you'll have a decent meal. Besides convenience, canned soup is not suitable for you nutritionally and also comes with a gross aluminum taste that will overwhelm your tastebuds.

8. Boiled Vegetables

Yes, getting your vegetables in is excellent, but boiling them may be the grossest way. All you have at the end are some very bland vegetables that could be smooshed in your hand alone. The overall feel and taste of them are very similar to baby food, so maybe avoid them and leave them in the past.

9. Margarine

Another extremely nostalgic food for boomers, margarine was supposed to be a healthy alternative to butter, but it is even worse. They try to cover it up with "zero calories," but the ingredients within will hurt you more than the calories.

10. Aspartame

Another filler for sugar, aspartame, once again, only hurts you more than it will help you. Aspartame is usually found in diet sodas and foods, but baby boomers have been adding this stuff to their coffee and tea for decades. Aspartame can impact your gut health, and, even worse, can cause weight gain.
