1. Creamed Spinach
Spinach is a vegetable that boomers have enjoyed for generations. I still hear my grandpa's voice saying, "Don't forget to add creamed spinach!" I was around creamed spinach so much growing up that I can't stand it today! Younger people don't seem to enjoy vegetables as much; they would rather have a pizza or some fries.
2. Meatloaf
My love for meatloaf knows no bounds. Many other millennials may beg to differ as they see it as a culinary enigma. They cringe at the ingredients and maybe would rather go with adventurous flavors than classics. Meatloaf is a nostalgic dish; it reminds me of family gatherings and brings so much comfort and heartiness.
3. Canned Tuna
It's almost impossible to picture young people diving into a can of tuna. But for boomers, canned tuna has been a staple for many years. It goes into sandwiches, casseroles, and salads. For some reason, millennials don't like the fishy classic. The pungent smell and taste of canned tuna may be a bit of a turn-off.
4. Jello Salad
Besides my five-year-old going wild for jello salad, I doubt other young people are into it. The treat is the perfect combination of gelatin, mayonnaise, and canned fruit. Even this perfection isn't attractive enough for younger palettes. Boomers revel in its nostalgic nature, but many young ones say, pass.
5. Liver and Onions
I can't get enough of this dish, but other millennials don't feel the same! Liver and onions is a boomer cuisine that has existed since time immemorial. However, its strong taste and pungent smell have proven to be a turn-off for the younger generation.
6. TV Dinners
Frozen foods gained the fancy name TV dinners as you can quickly toss them into the microwave and sit in front of the TV, eating while enjoying your favorite show. Usually, they come with high sodium preservatives, and some parts will be cold at the center, but boomers will still power through. TV dinners are a foreign concept to young people and, as such, not enjoyed.
7. American Cheese Slices
Elements like plastic packaging and artificial taste are some of the things millennials campaign against. Shockingly, boomers still find a way to incorporate cheese slices into their meals even though they are unhealthy. Millennials tend to disagree with this food type.
8. Miracle Whip
Young chaps find Miracle Whip unbearable and sweet. It's kind of ironic as you'd think the younger generation would enjoy its diverse levels of sweetness, but in food studies, they've termed Miracle Whip as too sweet. This condiment would find its way onto any boomer's plate.
9. Fruitcake
Millennials, what's wrong with fruitcake? Although it was a popular holiday treat for boomers, millennials are yet to find the joy in fruitcake. My five-year-old cringes at the thought of it, even if she sees all the gummy fruits dyed in different colors. Younger people would rather eat freshly baked cakes than this option.
10. Spam
As wartimes were unpredictable, it only made sense to have meat with a longer shelf life. Although spam comes with excess salt and preservatives, boomers still appreciate it. Young people don't get the story or the significance of the meat and don't enjoy it.
