From the age-old debacle of pineapple on top of pizza to the art of making a perfectly cooked and seasoned steak, there are endless debates when it comes to the kitchen. With everyone around the globe having an opinion on food, several unresolvable stalemates are brewing beneath the surface. Here are 10 cooking opinions that split members of an online culinary community right down the middle! So, which side are you on in each of these?

1. Dried vs. Fresh Pasta

We’re starting this list with something a little saucy. One of the most beloved carbohydrate-rich dishes loved by all - pasta - comes in different shapes and sizes, but the debate here is whether to use the dried or fresh variety. One user explained that they don’t enjoy it fresh but prefer the “dried stuff.” Many people agreed, saying can’t tell the difference. However, I suspect a traditional Italian chef may strongly disagree!

2. Say No To Rinsing Rice

Rice is another staple food present in everyone's pantry. It can pretty much be consumed at any time of the day. However, what’s controversial is that some people don’t see the point of rinsing it first. According to some, washing rice helps remove some of that excess starch and allows the grains to cook a bit better. Others say rinsing rice first makes it sub-par. Do you wash your rice?

3. “Jarlic”

If you’re wondering what new food concoction I’m referring to, then let me tell you: Jarlic stands for garlic in a jar. When you’ve been working tirelessly all day and want to whip a garlicky stir fry, this can be very handy. Many people are appalled by the idea as it reduces the garlic flavor and isn’t as good as the real deal. Perhaps here, the decision comes down to whether you prefer taste or convenience.

4. Unpeeled Potatoes

Since our list seems to have all the best carbs in the world, we couldn’t help but throw in one more. A user spoke about using unpeeled potatoes in all their dishes because it saves them time. While the peel provides tons of beneficial nutrients, let’s just say this opinion was not well-received.

5. Boxed Over Homemade Mac & Cheese

Have you ever had Kraft’s mac and cheese as a child? That bright yellow cheesy goodness made my entire childhood so much better. While that blinding yellow color and powdered cheese that many of us were raised on might be nostalgic, let's go ahead and agree it's no culinary masterpiece. All you need to do to step up this childhood favorite with a bit of sophistication is boil some delicious pasta, add in your cheese, milk, and seasoning, and enjoy the mouth-watering meal. What’s so hard about that?

6. Is a Hot Dog a Sandwich?

One of the oldest hot topics to plague the cooking industry: can we call a hot dog a sandwich? One user wholeheartedly disagrees, saying that a judge in Massachusetts ruled that a burrito is not a sandwich, which must mean that a hot dog also cannot be classified as such. In contrast, another user was convinced that if anything has two buns with some filling, it can be nothing but it. It’s safe to say that this is an endless cycle that will never end.

7. Gas Stoves Are Way Better

While many of us have switched from the traditional gas stove to a more high-tech induction one, some people still prefer the first. Gas stoves give you a lot more control of the flame, which is particularly beneficial if you’re someone who likes to char your veggies in the fire directly. But do you need all the extra hassle of cleaning the place every time you cook something? That’s for you to decide.

8. Too Much Cheese Is an Overkill

What do you do if your food doesn’t taste as appealing as you thought? Throw on some extra cheese and hope it tastes better. Not everyone likes this approach to food, while others don’t have the word “too cheesy” in their dictionary. It’s all pretty subjective if you ask me, just like salt.

9. Homemade Mayonnaise Is a Waste of Time

For those ready to whip out your immersion blender as soon as you see this, wait. It might not be as good as it sounds. After all the time and effort to get the perfect consistency and texture, all you get is…mayonnaise. The process is tiring and long, and the outcome isn’t that great unless you’re a mayonnaise fanatic. However, some swear by the non-processed and homemade variety. If you've got the time and magic touch, why not?

10. Iceberg Is the Best Leafy Green

This is one argument people just cannot seem to "leaf" alone. One side claims that Iceberg is the blandest vegetable to ever exist, while the other side talks about its crispy texture and delicious “watery juices.” Iceberg is often used in sandwiches, salads, or side dishes, but the internet just can’t seem to agree if it’s worth consuming. I think it comes down to whether you prefer taste or texture, but regardless, it's one culinary opinion that will likely remain just as divided as the head of lettuce on a wedge salad.
