Ingredients
4
cups
flour
2
cups
warm water
2¼
teaspoons
active dry yeast
¼
cup
olive oil
1
teaspoon
salt
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a larger bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes.
Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover. Let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Transfer the dough to an oiled baking sheet, stretching and flattening it. Use your fingertips to create dimples in the dough.
Drizzle with a bit more olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Add any herbs if desired.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use high-quality olive oil for better flavor.
Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free spot to ensure good growth.
For extra flavor, consider adding herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough.
Don’t over-knead the dough; it should be soft and slightly sticky.
Use your fingertips to make dimples in the dough before baking to create the classic focaccia look.
