Ingredients
1
slice
of bread
1
egg
1
tablespoon
of unsalted butter
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Instructions
Using a glass or cookie cutter, cut a hole in the center of your bread slice.
Heat your pan over medium heat and add the butter.
Once the butter has melted, place your bread slice in the pan, ensuring it's well coated with the butter.
Crack the egg into the hole in the bread.
Cook until the egg is set on the bottom, about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another minute for a runny yolk, or 2-3 minutes for a firm yolk.
Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve hot.
Notes
Ensure your pan is hot before adding the butter, it helps to get a nice crispy bread.
Use a glass or a cookie cutter to make a hole in the bread; this helps the egg fit nicely.
Don't waste the bread you cut out; toast it in the pan and serve it on the side.
Carefully crack the egg into the hole to avoid breaking the yolk.
Don't rush the cooking process. A low to medium heat ensures the egg cooks evenly without burning the bread.
