Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella, and wash the basil leaves.
Layer mozzarella, tomato slices, and basil between two slices of bread. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder.
In a pan over medium heat, melt butter. Place the sandwich in the pan and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, approximately 3-5 minutes per side.
Optionally, drizzle with a balsamic glaze and serve hot.
Notes
Choose a bread that holds well and doesn’t get soggy easily.
Opt for fresh, ripe tomatoes to avoid extra moisture that can make the bread soggy.
Allow the mozzarella to drain or pat it dry to avoid additional moisture.
Press the sandwich slightly while grilling to ensure even toasting and melting of cheese.
Serve immediately after cooking to enjoy the melty cheese and crispy bread.
