Ingredients
1
whole chicken
3-4 pounds
2
cups
Applewood chips
¼
cup
olive oil
2
tablespoons
dry rub
salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar
2
tablespoons
melted butter
Instructions
Preheat your smoker to 225-250 degrees F and add the wood chips.
Rinse the chicken and pat it dry.
Brush the chicken with olive oil and apply the dry rub all over.
Place the chicken on the smoker, breast side up.
Smoke the chicken for about 3-4 hours or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
During the last 30 minutes of smoking, brush the chicken with melted butter.
Remove the chicken from the smoker and let it rest for 15 minutes before carving.
Notes
Brine your chicken for a few hours before smoking to keep it juicy and flavorful.
Make sure the smoker is at the correct temperature (225-250 degrees F) before adding your chicken.
Don't open the smoker too often. It lowers the temperature and increases the cooking time.
Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is cooked to the correct internal temperature (165 degrees F).
Let the chicken rest for at least 15 minutes after smoking before carving. It helps the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
