For this recipe, you will need an egg rack metal trivet in order to make the eggs.

Yes, you can make hard boil eggs in Instant Pot without a trivet or rack!

  • High pressure for 5 minutes, natural pressure release for 5 minutes, and 3 minutes in a bowl.

Usually, I'm making Instant Pot hard-boiled eggs with the basic metal trivet that comes with the Instant Pot.

  1. I've been making myhard boiled eggs this way for months. We eat a lot of them. Question: should the eggs be room temp? I've been using them straight from the fridge. Also sometimes some eggs will have the discoloration on the yolk and some won't. Sometime there is a burn mark under the shell but the egg is fine.

  2. Best hard-boiled eggs ever! When I boil them in water on the stove, usually one egg breaks. Your way produces perfect eggs. Thank you!

  3. I always have an egg or two develop a crack when cooking like this, even though they all look fine going in. Any idea how to prevent this?

    1. Hmm, I wonder why! Some eggs have thinner shells than others, so it may have to do with the brand or the size of the eggs. Larger eggs tend to have thinner shells that are more delicate, so try purchasing slightly smaller eggs and see if that helps?

    2. 5 stars
I think that ice-cold eggs, straight from the fridge, are more likely to crack. I put my eggs in tepid water for a few minutes to take the chill off.

  4. I know a lot of people use their IP to boil eggs, and I guess I will try it just to see. But I have steamed my boiled eggs for a long time and am quite happy with the results. It does take a little longer but a couple of minutes here and there is no big deal for me. I bring a half cup or so of water to a boil, add eggs and steam for 10-12 minutes, remove eggs, and dunk in cold water for a few minutes to cool. Peel easily every time. But I will try the IP to see what all the fuss is about.

    1. I'm doing it mainly because it allowed me to peel them much more easily after cooking in the Instant Pot :]

      1. Agree! Fresh eggs were impossible to peel. Had to wait a couple of weeks to hard boil. Felt a bit YUCKY doing it that way. 5-5-5 eggs were perfect.

  5. Corrie- Do you know how the eggs would turn out if you use low pressure for soft-boiled eggs for the time you suggested (4 minutes)?

  6. Does it make a difference when you do more eggs at a time? I had 6 eggs in for 8 minutes and the came out beautifully, but were really difficult to peel.

    1. Try this:
      5 minutes high pressure cooking
      5 minutes natural release
Quick release and 5 minutes in a bowl filled with cold water.

      1. I cook 18 eggs for 3 mins in a rack from amazon. I stared at 5 min then 4 then 3 fully cooked not soft going to try 2 min next they keep a long time in fridge a couple weeks and peal easy

        1. Same here. I was getting a little grayish tinge around the yolk so I experimented like you did. It doesn’t matter if they touch or not. And I always put them in ice water after. Even eggs purchased that day peel like magic.

    2. The physics of pressure cooking is such that changing the amount of food does not change the cooking time. Changing the density of the food (for instance a roast of the same weight, but thicker density) can change cooking time. Your eggs are the same density regardless of how many you have in the pot. The only thing that might change that is if you crowd them together so much that the steam can't get around them.
