What makes Instant Pots a must in every kitchen?

Instant Pots are so good — they literally do it all. I’m pretty sure if you’re here for the recipe, you already know just how awesome they are.

These pots act as a slow cooker and a pressure cooker, replacing multiple kitchen appliances. It can also transform into an air fryer if you have the right accessory — and an air fryer can be a lot of fun.

They are super versatile — Instant Pots can fry, sauté, steam, and sterilize, as well as make a variety of Instant Pot recipes from Instant Pot chicken to yogurt, oatmeal, pies, and even cakes!

The pressure cooker function reduces time, cooking on low heat for hours, while using the slow cooker function means you can “set and forget”.

The air fryer function makes food extra crispy and is also lower carb than deep frying recipes, as the air fryer uses less oil.

Can I use other Instant Pot sausage?

Sure, you can! If you cannot find bratwurst at the grocery, you can also use kielbasa sausages, Italian sausages, or any other raw sausage. I think any variety tastes fantastic.

The pressure cooking time may vary as different sausages come in different thicknesses. The key is to remember the inner temperature should be 160F — that way you know your meat is cooked all the way through.

You can cook these sausages with onions, peppers, potatoes, or sauerkraut.

You can also use brats for to make Instant Pot Zuppa Toscana, a healthy and hearty soup.

To cook kielbasa sausages in an Instant Pot, you first drain and add sauerkraut, onion, and peppers into the bottom of the pot.

Next, add a cup of your preferred liquid. This can be water, chicken broth, beer, or even the drained sauerkraut juice if you want a more traditional flavor.

Layer your kielbasa in a ring formation in the Crock-pot. Place the lid on, and make sure the steam valve is sealed. Cook for 15 minutes on High Pressure.

Once finished, release the steam and hey presto! A super tasty kielbasa recipe, cooked in a bratwurst cooker.

I want to make more! Can I modify this recipe?

You can easily modify this recipe if you want to cook larger portions, or if you want to swap out or add any ingredients.

If you’re having a family gathering, dinner party with a few friends, cooking for game day, or prepping for a weekend camping trip, I advise to double or triple the measurements used in my original recipe. Cooking time stays the same and you just need to add use more butter and beer. Check out this table:

# of Brats
Cook with...
4 bratwurst 2 tablespoon butter
1 cup beer

For those of you that don’t want beer brats, you can replace this with various other liquids, in the same quantity. Why not experiment and see how the recipes turn out? Here are some options:

  1. 5 stars
Delicious, and tender! Love browning the brats before cooking under pressure. Skin is browned and tender to bite through. The butter and beer add the flavor! YUMMY!

  2. Why place the brats on the trivet? Why not pressure cook in the beer? For 4 brats, using 1 cup of beer, the trivet kept the brats out of the beer.

    1. You can make this recipe without using the trivet too. I find the trivet still keeps the brats juicy and infused with the beer flavor even if it's not touching the beer.
