It’s only slightly sweetened with a hint of honey and seasoned with a bit of cinnamon. Delicious!

One of the best things about this recipe is that it’s so versatile! You can eat it as it is or use it as a sauce. It also works great with pancakes and even for replacing the eggs in a cake recipe.

You can also use it as a substitute for a store bought applesauce.

Just like the Instant Pot pear sauce, it's a great healthy option when you’re looking for something sweet.

What Type of Apples Work Best?

It’s best to use apple varieties that soften when they are cooked down such as Golden Delicious, McIntosh and Fuji.

I also like to use a mix of different varieties for different flavors. For example, I’ll use half McIntosh apples for their texture and sweetness and half Granny Smith apples for a tart flavor to balance it out.

I also love using Pink Lady apples for their subtle color, and they also have a nice soft texture when baked.

When it comes down to it though, you can make apple sauce using any type of apple! Just use whatever you have, or whatever you pick from the orchard, and I’m sure it will turn out great.

Do You Need to Peel the Apples?

Yes. For a silky-smooth applesauce, you should peel the apples and cut them into quarters before adding to your pressure cooker.

If you have a high-power blender, you may be able to get away without peeling the apples. Apple skins have a lot of nutritional value. They are full of vitamins and antioxidants, so I understand the appeal (ha!) of wanting to use the skins.

However, if your apples have pretty thick skins or your blender isn’t powerful enough, it will probably just end up in chunks in the sauce, which is definitely not what you’re looking for.

Can You Use a Regular Blender?

Yes. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can transfer the contents of the Instant Pot to a blender and blend until smooth. You may need to do this in multiple batches, depending on the size capacity of your blender bowl.

How Long is Applesauce Good For?

This Instant Pot Applesauce will keep in your refrigerator for 7-10 days.

This recipe also freezes well! You can keep it in your freezer it for up to 2 months.

Can I Use Sugar Instead of Honey?

Yes, you can, but I prefer honey because I love the way it complements the taste of the apples and cinnamon. Plus, honey is typically more natural and less processed than granulated sugar.

If you’re looking for a lower sugar content, you can leave the honey or sugar out altogether. Especially if your apples are particularly sweet!

How to serve?

Serve with pancakes or add to Instant Pot Oatmeal or Instant Pot yogurt.

Ingredients

  • 8 apples peeled
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup water
  • pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  • Place apples, cinnamon, honey and water in the Instant Pot.
  • Close the lid and cook at high pressure for 5 minutes.
  • When cooking time ends, to a quick pressure release.
  • With a immersion blender, mix everything until you obtain the texture of your choice. .
  • Add salt, mix a bit and enjoy!

  1. This recipe is so easy. It came out great. I use a potato masher to mash the cooked apples. I like the lumpy texture. Reminds me of my mothers applesauce. Thanks for the recipe.
