If you’re like me, you may find it easier deciding between two options that are more like each other. I find being able to judge the same features gives me a better grasp on the outcome of my decision. Well, in this article we’ll be comparing apples and oranges, so to speak.
Seeing, that these two products have major differences in both functionality and design, they will likely appeal to different groups of consumers. To decide which one of these products will work best for you, I’ll go over the important features of each pressure cooker, the pros and cons of each, and how you can decide which one is more suitable for your needs.
Overview of the Cuisinart CPC-600
The Cuisinart CPC-600, is pretty much a dedicated pressure cooker. While you can sauté food to prep for cooking, and simmer to finish, it does not have all the extra features that have become common in pressure cookers. It doesn’t have the slow cook, steamer, or yogurt maker options. It is not a multi-cooker, it’s a pressure cooker.
It has cool-touch handles and comes with a 6-quart nonstick inner pot that is BPA free and dishwasher safe. It also includes a trivet.
The CPC-600 does not have the many cooking presets that more expensive pressure cookers have, but it does cook on both high and low pressure, and has a very simple control panel. To cook with this appliance, you simply select high or low pressure, enter the time, and press start. It has an automatic keep warm feature that will activate for up to 12 hours after pressure cooking is complete.
The one thing you may find confusing with this pressure cooker is how you enter time. The display has only a 2-digit LCD counter so when adding time to the cooker any time from 0 up to 40 minutes is in one minute increments, and time entered from 40 to 99 is in 5 minute increments.
Another feature this pressure cooker lacks, that is a staple among most pressure cookers is a time delay option. So, with the CPC-600 there will be no setting things up in the morning so you have dinner waiting when you get home from work, but with the speed of pressure cooking this may not necessarily be an issue for all.
Overview of the Fagor Lux
The Fagor Lux is an aesthetically pleasing piece of equipment. Consumers get three color options; Champagne, Silver, and Copper. It also comes in three different capacities; 4 quarts, 6 quarts and 8 quarts. The Copper color is not available in the 4-quart size.
This is the multipurpose cooker we come to expect at the higher price points. It can slow cook up to 10 hours and pressure cook up to 99 minutes. It can make yogurt, has several options for cooking rice, and can brown, simmer and sauté. The Fagor Lux also has a steam setting, but doesn’t include a steam basket. The ceramic inner pot is dishwasher safe and PFOA free.
The Fagor Lux also has an automatic keep warm function for up to 12 hours and a time delay option for up to 6 hours.
The safety features of this pressure cooker also make it appealing to consumers. It has an anti-overheating system and an automatic pressure release that can eliminate the danger of burning yourself by manually releasing steam and pressure. The lid also has a locking system that prevents it from being open while under pressure.

Which of these two are right for you?
So now that we’ve gone over the differences, it’s time to decide which of these pressure cookers is the best fit for you.
If you already own a rice cooker or slow cooker, and you’re just looking for a pressure cooker, not a multifunctional appliance, the Cuisinart CPC-600 would be a great choice. It’s extremely simple to use, once you get the hang of programming the cook time. This pressure cooker will get the job done with no fuss.
The CPC-600 will also be a great choice if you’re just getting into pressure cooking and you want something inexpensive to experiment with. One thing to keep in mind after purchasing this appliance is that you should take good care of the delicate gasket. Never store the pressure cooker with the lid completely tight and try not to stretch it or put it on upside down after cleaning. If the gasket is damaged, the cooker will not be able to reach pressure. It will have to be replaced before you can use the appliance.
If you are not limited in your budget for a new pressure cooker the Fagor Lux would be the better option out of the two, for both new comers and experienced pressure cooks. It would be hard to pass up all the additional features you get with the Fagor Lux, unless you already own other small kitchen appliances.
The bottom line is, if you want something inexpensive and are only interested in pressure cooking, go with the Cuisinart CPC-600. If the price is not an issue and you enjoy using other cooking techniques, want more versatility in your kitchen, or you just want the additional option to make yogurt, go with the Fagor Lux.
