1. Risotto

One user told the story about their grandma's risotto recipe. They mentioned that they used to hate all their grandma's other dishes due to the number of spices and ingredients she used. However, the memory of being served risotto was positive because it was delicious, and their family sat around the table eating and talking.

2. Potatoes and Onion

Numerous dishes from different cultures include potatoes and onions, which several people mentioned their grandma's making. One person specified being made a specific meal with sausage, onion, and potatoes.

3. Varenyky (Ukrainian Dumplings)

"My grandma used to wake up early and make them while I slept. Then, she would boil them after I woke up, add sour cream or fried onions, and it would make a perfect breakfast. Her varenyky were the most delicious I've ever eaten."

4. Chanfana

Chanfana is a Portuguese stew typically made of goat or lamb. One user said their grandma and mother were both excellent cooks, but their grandma's chanfana was even better than their mom's chanfana. Another said that no one will ever make chanfana as their grandma did.

Although apple pie is a food many of us enjoy, there's something special about a dessert prepared by a loving grandma. One person said their grandma made one every Sunday when the family came over. They added, "She could've made one with her eye closed." Get The Recipe

A few people mentioned being cooked spaghetti or other pasta by their grandma. One user mentioned being grateful that their wife got the recipe and cooked it for them on occasion. Another commenter said their grandma would make a special pasta dish for them in the morning before they went to the beach.

7. Meatballs

Everyone who mentioned their grandma making meatballs ate a completely different meal. However, meatballs were at the top of the list of most mentioned dishes.

One user specified that they were Belgian, and a three-course lunch involved tomato soup with meatballs, stewed red cabbage and apples, and boiled potato and meat stew. They were also served vanilla custard mixed with fluffy egg whites, which sounds more like a four-course meal.

8. Tiny Versions of Food

One of my favorite memories was from the user who mentioned that their grandma "Always makes tiny versions of everything." Their grandma served them creamy chanterelle potatoes, little bacon buns, and little cinnamon rolls.

9. Swedish Pancakes

I argue that every type of pancake is delicious, but the ones not made in America are delicious. A user mentioned that their grandma's Swedish pancakes are their comfort food. They added, "Every kid in Sweden loves Swedish pancakes, and every household has their own way of making them. None are identical."

10. Moose

I need to brush up on my cultural food knowledge because I did not know that moose was an animal people ate regularly. This commenter specified that their mom's side of the family lives in Kuusamo [Finland] and hunts moose. Their grandma is also known for making flatbread and cloudberry soup, which she plucks herself.
