The world is full of incredible flavors that rarely make it onto everyday menus. Beyond the usual takeout picks, there are rich, comforting dishes waiting to be discovered. Think cheesy Georgian khachapuri fresh from the oven or slow cooked Cuban ropa vieja packed with spice. These cuisines deserve way more attention than they usually get.

Filipino

The Southeast Asian island nation is home to culinary influences from Spain, China, and America. Seafood, pork, beef, and chicken are central proteins, often paired with rice and curry sauce. Filipino food is one of my all-time favorites. Try some traditional Filipino rolls called lumpia; you will thank me later.

This South American cuisine draws inspiration from Mexico, Germany, Japan, and China. This fusion of influences makes Peruvian food a vibrant mixture of flavors. Seafood and Poultry dishes are often paired with corn tortillas, chili peppers, breads, and rice. Are we looking up Peruvian restaurants for tonight yet?
Georgian

A small country just south of Europe and Russia, Georgian cuisine is known for its rich stews, dumplings, cheeses, and breads. The traditional Khachapuri dish is a hollowed-out bread filled with cheese, butter, and a cracked egg. Accompanied with local wines, Georgian food should be high on new foods to try.
Mexican

I know what you're thinking: tacos and burritos are as common here as hamburgers and hotdogs. The truth is that Mexico's cuisine is much more than what we consider Mexican food to be in the U.S. Travel to the heart of Mexico, and you'll find a rich chili sauce called mole. It will change your mind about Americans' views on Mexican food. A sprawling country, Mexico's cuisine can vary depending on where you are.
Ethiopian

The western nation of Ethiopia is a thriving culinary country. If you are a fan of spicy food, this is the new cuisine for you. Centered around various meat and vegetables, the famous Ethiopian dish known as Wat is a stew filled with turmeric and red onions. Not a common go-to when you're hungry on a weekend night, but Ethiopian food should be on every foodie's list.
Cambodian

Another Southeast Asian country to make the list, Cambodia, encompasses Japanese and French flavors. Most meals consist of a mix of either seafood or chicken paired with noodles or rice. This Middle Eastern country has a rich culinary tradition that many Westerners know nothing about. An excellent option for vegetarians and meat eaters, this cuisine offers a variety of flavor options. A local fan adds, "Hands down Afghan food. It's a spicy eggplant dish that I dream about. So good!!!"

The beautiful Island nations of the Caribbean bring together the culinary styles of Latin America, China, Europe, and North America. With a broad spectrum of flavors, the cuisine of this region is sure to be packed with flavor. Spiced chicken and seafood are staples, as well as stews and rice dishes. It's a weird and amazing combination of South American, West Indie, and Asian cuisine."
Cuban

Take a trip down to South Beach, Florida, and you'll find Cuban food all around you. The delicious street food sandwich, Cubano, is a pressed sandwich with ham, roasted pork, mustard, and pickles. It's one of my favorite sandwiches, for sure! Plantains, rice, and beans are often served as side options for this island's cuisine. Next time you are on vacation, I recommend pairing a Cubano with a local daiquiri.
