Recipe Ingredients

recipe ingredients to cook navy beans in the Instant Pot

Navy Beans -this recipe uses dried navy beans. These small beans are a good source of manganese, folate, and copper.

Garlic - Using a clove or two of garlic in your recipe will also enhance the flavor of navy beans. I used it in garlic shrimp too and it provides a unique cooking flavor.

Chicken Stock -I like to make beans in chicken broth as it gives a unique juicy flavor. However, if you are a vegan and prefer vegetable stock you can also use that too.

Olive oil - You can also use avocado oil or coconut oil as well.

How to make Instant Pot Navy Beans

Gather the four ingredients needed before getting started. Since there are only four, each one is very important for the outcome!

Step One: Chop up two cloves of garlic

Step Two: Add 1 Cup of dried navy beans into the instant pot.

Step Three: Add the chopped garlic into the Instant Pot.

Step Four: Pour 1 cup of chicken stock in with the garlic and beans.

Step Five: Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

Step Six: Add 1 tablespoon of Olive oil and then mix all the ingredients together.

Step Seven: Add the lid and pressure cook at normal pressure for 50 minutes.

Just like that, the beans are done and ready to dish and enjoy!

Variations

Change up the broth - I mentioned it earlier, but you can use vegetable broth or stock or even beef broth or stock as well.

Add different spices - The great thing about cooking with beans is that they take on the flavors of spices and herbs really well. You can add in chili powder to add some heat to the beans, or even a bit of onion powder, too.

Add meat - If you want to add in a ham bone or even chunks of ham, this would be the perfect recipe to do that with! Just make sure to factor in the saltiness that will come from the ham when you're adding in other ingredients.

Helpful Tips

  • Save some prep time and buy minced garlic at the store! You can already get it chopped and ready to add!
  • To get the beans out of the Instant Pot, use a slotted spoon. This will leave the liquid in the pot.
